Last weeks season opener against the Clippers wasn't all that great, but they still prevailed like TRUE champions. The game itself wasn't even the main attraction of the night, the ring ceremony and raising of the banner is what made Tuesday so great.
I will admit, LA looked a little rusty but then again doesn't every team look that way on opening night.
Kobe was spectacular like usual, but what surprised me the most was how well Bynum played. He was running slow at times, but when he got the ball down low he was money. He had 26 points and 16 rebounds to compliment Kobe's 33.
Now to the bench, which wreaked and I'm being real nice. They looked like they pre-schoolers trying to learn how to play. I understand Gasol was out and that flickered with the lineups a bit, but that doesn't mean anything. And can someone tell me why DJ MBenga is even on the floor. I don't know if the Lakers were being nice or just didn't have anyone to put in the game but I don't want to see him playing, EVER AGAIN!!!
Moreover, Ron-Ron actually looked like a nice fit for LA. I underestimated his defensive ability, but I won't do that anymore. As for the him on the offensive side of the ball, he needs to not be scared to score. We all know that this is Kobe's team, but others can score. If he can hit the 3's and score in the post, he should be fine for the year.
And after watching the opener against the Clippers I'm a big fan of the trade Sasha Vujacic chants. He's been awful since the Lakers lost to Boston in the 08 Finals. He can't shoot anymore and he really thinks he is a point guard.
Phil let's get Shannon Brown more minutes, and Sasha less. You know I'm right.
Furthermore, I really think LA is more dangerous this year. When Gasol comes back, Odom will be moved back into the 2nd unit in which they should be able to produce better. Not only that but Gasol will draw more attention on himself, which helps Kobe, Ron-Ron, and even Bynum now.
I'm now worried about any teams holding LA from another title. The only team that can stop them is LA, and they know that.
P.S. those rings looked HOT!!! Take a look for yourself.
