2010 World Cup!

Most of America for the past month have been watching the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which ended Sunday.

This is the first World Cup in which I've watched the whole tournament, and I can say that it was overall a success. You had the favorites winning, the power houses losing, major upsets, controversy with referees, and etc.

We have to start off by talking about the World Cup champs, Spain. They were one of the favorites going into the tournament, and they prevailed as most thought. It wasn't all easy though as the Spanish loss their first game to Switzerland, and on the brink of elimination. However, they managed to control the rest of the tournament, and went undefeated on their way to a World Cup title. Their last four games went by the score of one-nil, enabling Spain to capture their first World Cup title.

Another big team in the tournament was team USA as they surpassed most odds and made it to the knockout round. The two C's are labeled when it comes to team USA's play in this tournament: controversy and comeback. In every game, the Americans gave up an early goal but managed to score one of their own when most thought they couldn't. Even though they lost to Ghana during extra time in the knockout round, I still believe the sky is the limit for this USA team if they make the right moves and get the right players.

Even though in most eyes the World Cup was a success, it was overshadowed by the referees and their lack of making the right calls. Often the refs missed fouls, game winning goals, etc. Every game consistently had at least two or three bad calls from the ref.

Besides the horrible job the refs did, the World Cup was still a success to me.

People who aren't even soccer fans or barely knew the players were so intrigued by this event. I'm not saying soccer will become one of the top sports, but this World Cup brought together many people who rooted for their country and wanted to see them win.

Soccer will never big a time sport in the USA, but when it comes to us against the world, USA all the way.

Lakers Off-Season

After winning their second championship in a row, the Los Angeles Lakers are now in the midst of the off-season trying to once again put themselves in a position to win a third straight title.

So far so good!

It started off with free agency which is very vital to the Lakers success. Most of their bench players were free agents, but the biggest person they wanted back was point guard Derek Fisher, who resigned a few days ago. As for their bench Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar were the two key free agents for the Lakers.

The Lakers made a hug move when they signed former Clippers point guard Steve Blake to a 4yr/$16m contract. The signing of Blake was considered by most very impressive, and the end for Jordan Farmar, who signed with the Nets yesterday. Blake is seven year veteran who has proven himself and will give the Lakers a much needed improvement at point guard off the bench.

Even though the Blake signing was big for the Lakers, Fisher's resigning was much more important. He has won five titles with the Lakers and probably the only guy who can tell Kobe when things aren't going right.

Fisher flirted with the idea of joining the Heat, but knew LA was the only place for him. Fisher went into stronger detail why the Lakers were perfect for him. Click here for the full scoop on Fisher's free agency breakdown. After signing Blake and Fisher, there were rumors that the Lakers would go after one or two more free agents for the bench.

The names that surfaced were Raja Bell, Matt Barnes, Shaun Livingston, and Tracy McGrady. If they could only get one of those guys, I would definitely chose either Bell or Barnes because they are lock down defenders who would be able to come off the bench and hold opposing teams' top perimeter players. If they can get two guys, then I would get Barnes and T-Mac. Barnes started last year for the Magic and his defensive ability while being able to shoot threes was key for them. As for T-Mac, he may be washed up but the Lakers don't need him in his prime. They just need another scorer off the bench to compliment Lamar Odom and take some pressure of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.

The off-season is still young but if the Lakers can get a few more pieces to add to their bench, they should be in great shape at trying to capture the 17th NBA Championship.

The NEW Big 3!

Everybody's been raving about the combination of Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh this off-season during free agency. I think it's a smart move, however I do think it will take some time to work.

Let's take a look back at the last team in which they had 3 all-stars in the prime. We don't have to go far, remember the Celtics, who did it in 08. They brought Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen tojoin Paul Pierce, but the only difference is the Eastern Conference was horrible then. The Heat have to get through the Magic, Celtics, Bulls, Hawks, and maybe even the Bucks.

Granted, if the Heat get the right role players to go with these guys then they should definitely fly through the East.

One of the main questions people have been asking is, how will the blend when they all have to have the ball in their hands?

I do believe to start the season, it'll be conflict but as the season rolls around they'll get more comfortable with each other and learn how to share the ball effectively. The thing that mighthurt them is when playoff time comes. Whose going to have the ball in those crunch time situations. I think Wade would be the best at those situations, and he's proven it more on numerous occasions. However, I do believe James will have the ball if it comes down to it.

Besides their egos clashing another big concern is the fact that they don't have a bench tocompliment their 3 stars.
They re-signed Udonis Haslem, and supposedly are close to signing Mike Miller. But who else can they get to support the big three and still not go over the salary cap. There aren't many free agents left who can be consistent enough to play on the Heat.

The last concern I believe the Heat will have, is whether Bosh plays power forward or center. It could really determine his effectiveness and the Heat's chances. If he has to play center, he'll face the likes of Amar'e Stoudemire, Dwight Howard, Shaquille O'neal, Al Horford and Kendrick Perkins (when fully healthy). Those are all big bodies, and I don't know how comfortable he'll be playing those stronger guys. Now at power forward it doesn't get easier because he'll have to go up against Garnett, Rashaad Lewis, and Carlos Boozer.

Either way, his ability to play both ends at a high level will be key for Heat.

Oh yeah, let's not forget that the Heat still haven't proven anything. Everyone is just giving them high praises because of their three stars. However, the Los Angeles Lakers have been to the Finals three straight times, and have won the NBA title back-to-back years now. I'm still not understanding why they aren't the favorites for this upcoming season. They have the same starting lineup from last year, and the bench just got a whole lot better with the Steve Blake signing. They should sign Shannon Brown back, and maybe another key scorer or defensive stopper which would be a perfect fit.

I'm not saying the Heat won't win, and maybe be one of those greatest teams ever. It just won't be this year! I think they still have some work to do, and I think the big three have to get used to each other more because they'll be playing together for a long time.

Classic!

Last week's Patriots, Colts game was an instant classic. Once again, these two teams have proved why they are the class of the NFL.

Now even though the Colts won, it's obvious that the Patriots gave that game away. Tom Brady was near perfect against the Colts rookie DB's. The Colts barely pressured Brady, and when you're playing this guy you better be on point.

Brady threw the ball all throughout the field, and had a pretty good running game to compliment. If that wasn't enough they led by 13 in the 4th quarter with almost 8 minutes left in the game. They made a few mistakes, which allowed Peyton Manning and that explosive offense to take control.

The biggest play of the game was the Patriots 4th and 2 play that basically gave the Colts the victory. The Pats went for it and were short of about an inch, which was definitely false as shown over and over from numerous replays. That eventually led to Manning executing the winning drive, with Reggie Wayne catching the winning touchdown to cap it off.

I really do think this game was rigged!!

However, this was a perfect game to end the rivalry of the decade. These two teams pretty much are always in the AFC Conference Game or the Super Bowl. This game proved to the world what great players, coaches, and organizations that these teams have. It's always a close game, and when they play the stakes are always high.

I am upset that the Pats lost, because a win would've brought them to 7-2 which would be t-2 in the AFC. Now at 6-3, the Pats have to consistently win football games so they still have a chance of getting a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Next year when these two teams meet, it will be a new decade in which nothing will change. Both will continue to be atop their divisions and competing for Super Bowl titles.

Can't wait until next year!!

Rivalry Renewed!

Finally there is a meaningful game in the NFL, and it is the New England Patriots vs Indianapolis Colts.

This is the best rivalry in football this past decade, and it will only get better after Sunday's game. Both teams sit stop their division, and know that a win Sunday would put them in great positions. I know everyone's riding the Colts bandwagon because of their 8-0 record, but don't sleep on these Patriots. They still have the weapons on offense and defense to beat. Let's not forget about their brilliant and tactical coach Bill Belichick.

The Patriots have caught their stride and are starting to look like the same team in 2007, which went 16-0 during the regular season. Tom Brady doesn't look nervous anymore, and their run game is starting to be more efficient. It's that enough, just look how stellar their defense has been. Against the wildcat offense last week they didn't let the Dolphins run all over them, or confuse them like they did last year.

Moreover, the Colts have looked very unorganized and a bit unlike themselves these past two weeks against the 49ers and Texans. They've struggled to score, stop the pass, and even win the game. If they think that'll work against the Pats, then they'll be going into next week with a 8-1 record.

For the past 7 or 8 years, these two teams have met every year and ultimately the winner of the regular season match up goes on to win the Super Bowl. Of course it's about the teams, but when the game starts it becomes all about Brady v Manning. Both have won MVP awards, and became World Champions. They're always compared to each other because they're the face of their team.

This Sunday will be no different. However, I think Brady and the Pats offense will be able to score more points than Manning and the Colts. I think the Brady and the Pats still feel they have something to prove, and win against the Colts

It'll definitely be another classic game, like these two teams have had before.

It will be on NBC 8/7 CT. DON'T FORGET!!

Next Years Class Of Stars!

The 2009 NBA season hasn't even been a month old yet and all people can talk about is the 2010 free agent class, which is headlined by LeBron James, Dewayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. So let's talk about it.

If everyone opts out of their contracts and everything goes according to plan, this will easily be the best free agent class in NBA history. Looking past LeBron, Wade, and Bosh, there are some players in this class who can turn your team from pretender to contender. You have T-Mac, Joe Johnson, Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Shaq, Yao Ming, Manu Ginobili, Dirk Nowitzki and there still is more. If you have enough cap room, definitely look into snatching one of these guys up because all have experience and all are future Hall of Famers.

Moreover, I think there's only a few teams who can actually come out of the summer of 2010 with a big name star.
  1. New Jersey Nets
  2. New York Knicks
  3. Miami Heat
  4. Los Angeles Lakers.

First, let's talk about the New Jersey Nets and their chances of grabbing one or maybe two players in this free agent pool. With them moving to Brooklyn, and with the help of Jay-Z and their Russian owner, I really like their chances. Jay-Z and LeBron have a very televised friendship, so if he can lure "King James" to Jersey then I wouldn't be surprised. Now they are a young team already, but all they need is someone to take over games and be a dominant force. If they can trade away some draft picks and expiring contracts, I think they can make a strong case to also get a big man like Stoudemire, or Nowitzki. If they're able to get one star then I'll think they'll be able with that, but if they can get two then the Eastern Conference better look out.

As for the Knicks, it's really hard to tell what they will or can do. The only leverage they hold over the other teams in the LeBron sweepstakes is that he loves New York. He loves the environment and he loves playing at MSG, which makes the Knicks not a bad option for him. However, I doubt LeBron is going to want to come to a team that has no potential of ever winning a championship. I think the Knicks will definitely come away with at least one big name next summer, I just don't know who. I think a good pick up would be Joe Johnson, because he can definitely take over games and he gives them someone who elevate them over their hump now.

The Miami Heat is the one team who can do a lot of damage next summer. If they can lock Wade up and get rid of some of those lack-luster players they have now, they can maybe get a big man to match Wade with up. The perfect compliment for Wade would be Amar'e Stoudemire. They have enough young players that can easily aid Wade and Stoudemire to potentially a deeper run in the Eastern Conference. It all depends on Wade's moves though, because if he leaves then they'll have to restructure their whole offseason.

Now to my 4th and final team, the Lakers. This is going to sound a bit complicated, but here goes. I don't think they'll enough money to go get another free agent next summer, but they can do a trade and sign him type thing in which they send Bynum, Odom, and a few other bench players to the Cavs for LeBron. I think the team they have now is good enough as it it, but if they got him boy would that be a summer headline. Kobe and LeBron on the same team, that's practically unbeatable.

Those are just a few teams who I think can make a splash next summer but every team in the NBA can make a move. It will definitely be a summer to remember, and one that will go down in NBA history. I can't wait!!

First Half Awards

With week 9 now underway, the 2009 NFL season is now half over. This year has been one of the best, with so many teams vying for playoff positions and so many players having good years so far. Here are my award winner for the first half.

  • Most Valuable Player
My MVP so far this season has to be Brett Favre. I know your wondering if I'm crazy or something but just hear me out. The Vikings went out and got Favre just to be a compliment for their great running game and tremendous defense, however Favre has been more. He has taken the pressure of the running game and now put it on every team that faces the Vikings. The opposing defenses don't know whether to commit more to the run, or the pass. Of course Adrian Peterson is having another spectacular year, but now with Favre as his QB he can be more productive. Favre is tied for the league lead in touchdowns with 16, while throwing close to 2,000 yards. If that's not enough he has the Vikings atop their division and 2nd in the NFC with a 7-1 record. He's been brilliant in every game except one, and if it wasn't for him the Vikings would probably have 3 losses at this point.

  • Defensive Player of the Year
As much as I wanna give it to Troy Polamalu I can't because of the games he missed, so I'm going to say Darren Sharper of the New Orleans Saints, which I don't think is a bad choice. When your hear the Saints all you think of is their potent offense, but this season is so much different because now they have a defense led by Sharper. He's tied for the league lead in interceptions with 7, but leads the NFL with 3 interception returns for touchdowns. With Sharper and this defense, the Saints can definitely make some noise in the second half of the season as well as in the playoffs. But watch out for Vikings DE Jared Alllen, he's definitely a game-changer.
  • Rookie of the Year
This a real "head scratcher" because no one has really shined like last years ROY Matt Ryan. However, I have two players who I think may have a chance of winning the award if they continue to play like they are now, Percy Harvin of the Vikings and LeSean McCoy. Harvin first off, has done everything asked of him and more. He isn't a true wide receiver but he still can catch the football, and that is what he has been able to do. If that's not enough, he's been terrific while returning punts and kickoffs. He is tied for the league lead in yards in returning, but leads the league in return touchdowns with two. As for McCoy, I picked him also because he has been a real valuable player to the Eagles. With Brian Westbrook out, they need someone who is explosive in the running game to match their explosiveness in the air, and McCoy has been that so far. He doesn't have to have monster games, but just able to produce when the Eagles need him. This race should get more interesting as the season continues.

Those are my picks for the mid season awards of the NFL. Later this week I'll give you my team awards, and who I think is prime for a Super Bowl match up.

27th Heaven

The Yankeess are back atop of the baseball world after winning their 27th World Series title. Let me repeat myself, 27th WORLD SERIES TITLE!!!.

Their domination in baseball is like no other team in any other sport.

It's hard enough having the highest payroll in baseball, and a boss who demands you to win each and every. Now you go and add probably the top 3 free agents (CC Sabathia, Mark Teixera, & AJ Burnett) to a team that already had potential to go all the way, and the expectations sore highly.

I myself thought the Yanks had the right pieces to win the World Series, they just had to have the right chemistry for once.

Now them winning 103 games in the regular season was great, but their success to me can only be measured by what they do in the post-season. I really was only worried about the Angels, because they've always seem to take the Yanks out of their game. However, when we got to the ALCS to face the Angels those fears quickly went away because of how dominant their pitching was, and the fact that A-Rod was finally swinging the bat like he should've in past post-seasons.

As for the World Series I think a lot of the new faces, and young stars on the team were just nervous and that was the cause of their Game 1 defeat. Not taking nothing from the Phillies, the Yanks should've demolished them in that game.

Moreover, this was just the perfect season for the Yanks and the World Series title just capped it off. They had the best record in the league this year, their probably going to have the MVP, and Cy Young winners come from their team, and now they are the CHAMPS.

"This thing is right where it belongs" stated Derek Jeter while holding the trophy. He most definitely is right, the Yanks are the only team who can face adversity and beat easily. Also, they're the only New York sports team who can win championships and give fans the right to cheer and defend them.

Congrats Yankees, we definitely need more of these in New York. Let's go for #28

Kobe vs LeBron plus MJ

This post is in response to my fellow sports blogger Desmond, and his views on how LeBron James is better than everyone.

FALSE!!!

I'll give LBJ credit, he has taken over the league quicker than any other player in NBA history but that doesn't mean he's better than everyone. I put him third, behind Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

First off, MJ had continued success in the regular season and throughout multiple post-seasons, unlike LeBron. His six NBA titles don't only tell you how great of a player he was, it's all of his accolades as well, and overwhelming talent his exposed. MJ was always the best player on the court, and there was no one who could even come close. Of course his teams were dominant, but if it wasn't for his proven leadership, they would've never had the success that they had. LeBron however, has made one trip to the NBA Finals and got swept easily by the Spurs. Since then, he hasn't even been able to take his team back which says a lot about him because each year since that Finals lost, his teams have improved.

Now as for the Kobe-LeBron debates, it shouldn't even be discussed upon. Kobe has the battle easily in his back packet, and he even knows it.

Let's hold off from the careers for a moment and just look at last year alone. LeBron won MVP while Kobe finished second, and the Cavaliers had the best record in the league while the Lakers were second. Now all of that would've looked great if LeBron had beaten Kobe the two times they played each other. And let's not forget that the Cavs were undefeated at home when the Lakers came to town and ended that streak. Oh yeah, Kobe was sick too.

Then in the playoffs, the Cavs easily rolled past their first two series opponents while the Lakers easily defeated the Jazz but had struggles with the Rockets. Now in the Conference Finals games, it took LeBron a game winning three-pointer just for his team to win one game. ONE GAME!!! The sad part is that the team that destroyed the Cavs (the Magic) is the same team Kobe and the Lakers demolished in the NBA Finals.

Need I say more.

Now don't get me wrong LeBron is a very versatile player, but his versatility isn't better than Kobe's all around game. Kobe can easily beat you off the dribble or he can post you up like a big man and hit those tough fade-away shots that have you shaking your head like "how did he do that." Furthermore, he is definitely a way better shooter than LeBron from all angles on the floor. Kobe has so many ways to beat you, which makes him so difficult to defend. On the other hand, LeBron only uses his strength to do his work.

It really isn't fair to compare these two because their so different. However, Kobe's traits are what make him a far more better player than LeBron. And I haven't even mentioned the four NBA titles Kobe has under his belt, and other numerous awards he has attained such as being an 11x All-Star, 7x All-NBA First Team, and 7x All-Defensive First Team.

For those who feel Kobe needed Shaq to win those 3 titles in the early 00's are most definitely wrong. It was the other way around, Shaq needed Kobe because when Shaq was in foul trouble, and/or missing clutch free throws who was there to pick up the slack. KOBE WAS! He was overshadowed because of Shaq's dominance against those easily beatable teams. Even if LeBron would've had the type of player that Shaq was back then, which was a player that can take all the attention off him, it still wouldn't have mattered. LeBron doesn't produce in big games, and rarely he is clutch. I don't even know why I'm asking this question but who would you want with the ball in the 4th quarter? Hands down it's Kobe, because he's proven what he can do late in games, unlike LeBron, once again.

Kobe will continue to be better than LeBron, until he retires which wont be any time soon. Bron-Bron, you can have it in a few more years, hopefully you make the discussion more intriguing.

Quest For A 16th!!!

This NBA season is full of questions, but one you don't have to ask anymore is "will the Lakers be able to do it again?"

Last weeks season opener against the Clippers wasn't all that great, but they still prevailed like TRUE champions. The game itself wasn't even the main attraction of the night, the ring ceremony and raising of the banner is what made Tuesday so great.

I will admit, LA looked a little rusty but then again doesn't every team look that way on opening night.

Kobe was spectacular like usual, but what surprised me the most was how well Bynum played. He was running slow at times, but when he got the ball down low he was money. He had 26 points and 16 rebounds to compliment Kobe's 33.

Now to the bench, which wreaked and I'm being real nice. They looked like they pre-schoolers trying to learn how to play. I understand Gasol was out and that flickered with the lineups a bit, but that doesn't mean anything. And can someone tell me why DJ MBenga is even on the floor. I don't know if the Lakers were being nice or just didn't have anyone to put in the game but I don't want to see him playing, EVER AGAIN!!!

Moreover, Ron-Ron actually looked like a nice fit for LA. I underestimated his defensive ability, but I won't do that anymore. As for the him on the offensive side of the ball, he needs to not be scared to score. We all know that this is Kobe's team, but others can score. If he can hit the 3's and score in the post, he should be fine for the year.

And after watching the opener against the Clippers I'm a big fan of the trade Sasha Vujacic chants. He's been awful since the Lakers lost to Boston in the 08 Finals. He can't shoot anymore and he really thinks he is a point guard.

Phil let's get Shannon Brown more minutes, and Sasha less. You know I'm right.

Furthermore, I really think LA is more dangerous this year. When Gasol comes back, Odom will be moved back into the 2nd unit in which they should be able to produce better. Not only that but Gasol will draw more attention on himself, which helps Kobe, Ron-Ron, and even Bynum now.

I'm now worried about any teams holding LA from another title. The only team that can stop them is LA, and they know that.

P.S. those rings looked HOT!!! Take a look for yourself.

Don't Sleep On Em!!

College football is the most unpredictable sport ever, but that's what makes it so interesting. We all know about the Gators, and Bama, and Texas, but there is a team who can do more harm than any of those. The No. 7 ranked USC Trojancs!!

No. 7, yeah I know the ranking doesn't help you believe me but their play this year should make up for that. The have one measly loss and that was against the Washington Huskies on a game winning field goal. What makes it worse is the fact that they loss that game in week 3, and won every other since and no one is talking about them.

I don't understand how computers have the right to place teams in different positions and rankings. The actualt voters themselves screw things up, so your going to leave it up to a couple of computers. It makes no absolutely no sense to me!!

USC has been the only program to have had success consistently, and I'm a bit shocked and disappointed that they aren't being recognized for it.

As for this year, it's just the same as always. The Trojans lose an early game to a Pac-10 opponent, but win every game after. And I really don't see any other way of their season ending this year because their upcoming schedule is pretty easy and just cause their USC.

Now I don't know if the Trojans will be able to sneak into the National Championship picture, but you definitely can't sleep on them. Just look at the teams in front of them, none of which are the likes of Southern Cal. You have Boise State (#4), Cincinnati (#5), and Iowa (#6). Seriously, I don't even know one player on these teams combined. Boise and Cinci have had very light schedules, so I don't take them anywhere near serious. As far Iowa, they can get a little credit because the beat Penn State and Michigan, but they don't belong in front of USC.

WE ALL KNOW THAT!!

I think the college football world is just tired of hearing and seeing USC on top, and that makes no sense because if it wasn't for USC I wouldn't even be a college football fan. Everyone always looks for a new team to root for or a cinderella story, and they haven't had that yet.

But let me be the first to tell you, this Trojan team is nothing to be forgotten about. Their scary good, and they haven't even reached their highest potential.
But I've got some good news for all my fellow Trojan-eers, we will definitely be playing in a January bowl game. It'll probably be the Rose Bowl, since the voters are in love with Tim Tebow, and can't leave Texas out of the big game for a 2nd straight year.

Oh, but if we do make it to that Jan. 7th game, I guarantee another banner will be brought down in the good ol' Coliseum.

MVP Race!

So far this year in the NFL has been one of the best. A lot of teams are contenders, and almost everyone is a MVP candidate. However, there are only 3 true MVP candidates: Brett Favre, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady.

Now I like what Favre and Brees have done respectively for the unbeaten clubs, but Brady has this locked in the bag!

First off, Brady's schedule has been way more difficult so far this season and the Patriots are still one of the leagues division leaders.

What more can you ask for? They've played a playoff contending team every week. Who have the Vikings, and Saints played?

But enough of about the Pats, let's get to Brady himself. The guy missed a whole year and half with a bum knee, and now look what he's doing. 12 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions in only 6 games. Are we witnessing another 2007 type year? I doubt it, but he can definitely come close.

Everybody's forgetting about Brady because of that injury, and that's a bit stupid of them. Last week alone he threw 6 touchdowns (5 in the first quarter, which set an NFL record) against the Titans, and in the snow at that. And I don't want to hear, "well the Titans aren't a good team anyway" because they won 13 games last year.

I'm just saying Brady is back to normal now, so that means the Pats will be scoring 40 points per game each week. Good luck to all who those defenses who have to play Brady in the upcoming weeks. Maybe you'll get lucky and your offense makes sure you guys don't come on the field.

Moreover, if there was anybody who could overthrow Brady for MVP it would be the Saints QB Drew Bress. I'm not a big fan of him but the guy is really good. The funny part about it is that his team will probably decrease his chances of winning, just like last year.
Brees easily had the MVP locked up last year with his statistics alone, but the Saints 8-8 record just made the decision to not pick him so much easier.

Now the Saints are 5-0 now and they'll probably finish the season atop the NFC, but I just don't think he'll have the criteria when voting time comes around to win. Sorry Drew, maybe finishing second place again wont be that bad.

Finally, to the most entertaining QB in the league, Brett Favre. I wish you all could see the expression on my face when I just said this guys name. Favre just knows how to have the spotlight on him and always on him, but at least now it's a good light.
Everybody hates his return to retire attitude, but it does make for good tv. As for his numbers, Favre has a good shot to win his third MVP award. He's doing everything that he was brought it to do, but doing a way better job than any of us thought.

His downfall is going to be that he isn't even the best player on his team, and because Adrian Peterson will continue to torch every defense that comes in his path. If illegible Brett can definitely win the Comeback Player Award. Maybe!

Other notable candidates would be reigning MVP Peyton Manning who is still doing what he does best, even though I think he gets too much credit for the Colts success. Also, just mentioned Vikings tailback Andrian Peterson, who has separated himself from the other running backs in the league by miles. My sleeper pick to win the award is Safety Troy Polamalu from the Steelers, who with the time can do everything on field.

We have plenty of time until we find our MVP, but this is probably how it will look at seasons end. Good Luck To All!!

Just Days Away!

I thought you guys would've been listening by now. Guess Not!!

Even after the Lakers won the championship I told you all that it wasn't going to end there. I knew they were going to make the right moves in off-season, to prepare themselves for another title run, and they just did.

I'm not even going to mention Ron Artest just yet!!

The league should be really scared of this Los Angeles team more than last years team. Kobe Bryant for the first time in about 3 or 4 years is 100% healthy and has had plenty of rest. If you thought a hungry and driven Kobe was tough to deal handle, then what do you expect out of him now. You barely saw him this off-season, and I for one think that's really good.

And I'm tired of hearing how he's getting too old to play as good as before. Seriously!!

This guy is still the best player in the game, and he's going to take his game to new heights with the dangerous team he has now.

Remember you have the triple towers in Bynum, Gasol, and Odom.

For one, I think this is the year where Bynum doesn't get injured and actually performs really good. If that happens then Gasol will have less work to do, making him more of threat as well and we already know what he can do. Furthermore, Odom is once again being slept on. People are failing to realize how versatile this guy is, and that he can play with anybody on any given night.

I expect big things from those 3 collectively and individually.

Finally, to the "biggest question mark" of the year. Ron Artest.
I actually believe he's going to be fine in LA. I know his past and performance on other teams may not have been the best of his ability, but he has nothing to play for back then. Now he's on a team who is the favorite to win this years championship. He knows he's the X-Factor, and that the Lakers chances of repeating are on his shoulders.

However, it'll be perfect. He'll be doing the same thing he was on every other team he played for. Guard the opposing teams best offensive player, and average about 15 ppg, and 8 rpg. That's the same thing Trevor Ariza (remember him) did last year, who the Lakers got rid of for Artest. He'll fit in perfectly with this team because he knows that this is KOBE's team.

Let's Go LA!!

Romo Does Something Good!

For once I actually see why certain people (Dallas fans) like Tony Romo.

I watched the Monday Night-er last night with him and the Dallas Cowboys went up against the Carolina Panthers. Now, not taking anything away from the Dallas' win, but the Panthers just look awful. Moreover, the Cowboys should have torched them and had fun doing it. However, I guess they wanted to make it look interesting.

I know everyone wants to criticize Romo because he's gotten everything so easy, or at least it seems. But the guy can flat out play, and I don't know any other quarterback who has the athleticism like him.

He managed the game, and that's all they needed. The defense was there for Dallas, all they needed was a little offense to compliment them.

The third quarter was I think were the game really fell into Dallas' hands, and it just on one play. Romo, late in the third quarter did a little bit of dancing to avoid the sack and threw across the field to Tashard Choice for a 1st down and more. That play alone swifted the whole mindset of the game towards the Cowboys favor.

I'm not saying I'm a Cowboys fan now, but I do respect their game.

They could easily make a deep run this year. Their the best running team in the league, which decreases the pressure off Romo. Less pressure on Romo means better production out of him, and that's the main goal I would think to be in Dallas.

I think all the bad mouthing should really be put to rest until the playoffs start or the season is over. It's no point! Let Romo show all you doubter what he can or cannot do, before you continue to devour him. I know he hasn't shown up in the playoffs so far in his career, but what QB starts out winning game in the Superbowl, and playing consistently. NOT MANY!

Romo had a nice game, and that's the main story here. Go Big D!!

Stop Sweating Him!

A lot of people kept urging that Tom Brady's best days are behind him. [Clears throat] Did you see what he did yesterday in a win against the Falcons.

I understand the guy just came off major knee surgery, and of course it'll take some time to get back to normal. But to just throw him under the bus makes absolutely no sense. Come on, the guy hold the record for touchdowns in a single season. And I could've sworn he still had the best offense in the league. Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Ben Watson, newly added Fred Taylor. Enough said!

Ever since last week against the Jets all I been hearing was how slow Brady is, and he will never be the same. Umm, Brady doesn't need to be who he was 2 years ago. He just needs to throw the ball consistent, and make sure his team is always in position to win.

Easier said than done, I know.

However, Brady just isn't some mid-age quarterback trying to rebuild a career.

He's a former MVP. A 3-time Superbowl Champion, and easily one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He hasn't won a title since 04, and he is poised to make another dynasty. If not for the injury last year, the Patriots are probably defending champs.

Now I know I just sound like a huge fanatic, but can you say I'm wrong. Brady is the best postseason quarterback in this era, unless we have some Big Ben fans reading this. He's only loss about 3 games, all by a touchdown or less. Need I say more!

Yesterday's win over the Falcons was just the start.

He doesn't need to throw 5 TD's a game for the Pats to win. With Fred Taylor now finding a groove, this offense is more dominant than the 07 group, which set numerous records.

Not taking anything from all the good teams in the NFL this year, but the "Brady Bunch" is back and ready to reclaim all of it's glory. All you doubters just wait until early February when Brady is back in the Superbowl.

Yanks Back On Top

It wasn't enough that the Yankees were already dominating the Majors, now their first team to 100 wins; and the first clinch their division.

I don't know what else to say. Wait I do!

Just give them the trophy already. It's obvious there is no competition in the American League, and I doubt the National League can produce better.

I know what your going to say, "there an offensive team, and offsensive teams don't win championships." Valid point but this team is not just about offense. Their pitching is way better than last years, and the bullpen has been dominate from start to finish. You guys will be suprised by how effective their pitching is in October.

And I'm tired of hearing about the Angles. I know they beat the Yanks probably every year in the playoffs this past decade, but that's all changed. I don't even know who the Angels will put in their rotation, which is quite sad. Moreover, the Angles have to go through Boston just to get to us and they can't beat Boston if their life depended on it.

This season has just been nothing short of perfect for the Yanks.

Their going to have the best record in the league. CC should win the AL Cy Young, but probably wont because the voters are so in love with that Greinke kid. Teixera is definitely going to win the MVP, if the voters can see past Joe Mauer's nice little season.

What else can you ask for?

I understand the hatred against the Yanks, but you have to respect them.

Even if I wasn't a New Yorker, I'd still be the biggest Yankee fan. They make you want to watch them and root for them to win, because they always have an act for getting the win no matter how ugly it may be.

Don't be suprised when the title comes back to New York. Go Yanks!!!

Burning Questions!

With the NFL right around the corner, we have to get a few things out of the way. Here are 5 questions we all want answers to.

  • Who will have a more productive year: Brett Favre or Michael Vick?
Both of these guys will be good this year, but you have to give it to the "oldie" Brett. He is the starter and that isn't going to change, unless he get injured. On the other hand, Vick still has to be reinstated back into the NFL, and if so it wont be until week 6. Even if Vick plays what can he contribute? He's on McNabb's team, hence I said McNabb because you aren't going to over throw McNabb from the starter position. And if that isn't enough Favre has the better team overall. All he has to do is hand the ball off the AP, and maybe throw about 20 passes a game. The Vikings are young, and ready to be at the top of the NFL while the Eagles are already set with team they have now. Now if you ask me this same question next year I'll definitely have to go with Vick, but for now Favre has got it.

  • Can the Steelers repeat?
I doubt the Steelers will repeat as Super Bowl champions. Don't get me wrong this is a very good team, and they have a shot but with so many teams improving over the last year, it will be a hard feat. Just look at the AFC, your going to have to go through the Patriots, Chargers, Colts, Titans, and your division rival Ravens. Now I know what your going to say, they had the hardest schedule last year and still won the Super Bowl. But the teams that were suppose to be good last year weren't, so that made it much easier. Now if these Steelers can pull it off and make it back to the Super Bowl then you got me, but let's not forget about the NFC now with the Eagles, Cowboys, Giants, Cardinals, Falcons, Vikings, and Saints all improving. Remember, it took the Steelers a last minute drive to beat the Cardinals, so it wasn't that easy. Good Luck Though!!

  • Will Tom Brady perform well enough to lead the Pats back to the post-season?
Of course, this is an easy answer. Do you really think Brady is going to let his knee stop him from playing in another season. NO! And the more you guys doubt his ability to play this year makes him want to get out there even more now. Do you really want to have to play defense on this guy, knowing he's ready to light you up. And I haven't even mentioned all the weapons he's coming back to. If you thought the Pats were dominate two years when they went undefeated, just imagine how immortal they'll be this year (at least on the offensive end). I see no signs of Brady having a bad year, unless he gets injured again but if he's up and throwing then the NFL has got their MVP back.

  • Who is the team everyone should be looking out for?
This could be any team in the NFL, because you never know what can happen. However, the Atlanta Falcons will definitely be causing many teams problems. I know last year they snuck up on all of us, but this year it wont be a surprise. I really don't think Matt Ryan is as good as you all make him to be, but his surrounding cast is easily the best in the league. Adding Tony Gonzalez was the best move they could have made to ensure Ryan doesn't have a sophomore slump. I'm not saying their going to be this years Arizona, but they definitely will make a deep playoff run. DON'T BE SURPRISED!!

  • Who will hoist the Lombardi trophy at years end?
The will easily be the one of the best years the NFL has seen collectively, all the more reason this question is a bit hard to answer. I said "a bit" because while it's a tough choice I know that the Patriots will be on top. And I'm not only picking them because of Brady's return, their team is locked and loaded. Not only have they added Fred Taylor and Joey Galloway to an already potent offense but their defense will finally be healthy enough to get back to dominance. I see no shades of them missing the playoffs again, it's highly doubtful with their coaching staff.

Nadal, Serena Ending Year Off Right!

The US Open started yesterday and even though I didn't watch most fo the match ups, I already know that Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams will come out on top.

First off, I know Nadal has missed some time because of the knee but let's not forget when he was in action he was dominating. I know the great Roger Federer is on a hot streak but the last time I checked, Nadal has beat Federer in the last two majors that played each other in. And don't be surprised when these two meet this year in the Open final, which Nadal will ultimately take.

Now I know Nadal will have some stiff competition on his end, but it's nothing new to him. All you Andy Murray fans, get over yourself. The guy is a crowd favorite and that's about it, I don't see much coming out of him. He only became the #2 ranked player in the world because Nadal has missed the last two majors due to injury. In his absence, Murray didn't make a final appearance in either the French Open or at Wimbledon, so what does that tell you.

Nadal is back and that means the rest of the field should just sit back and enjoy his greatness. He will definitely reclaim the world's #1 ranking sooner than you all think.

Isn't this a great way to end the year, after it being so horrible.
On the other hand, the women's bracket once again looks like another easy road for Serena to capture the Grand Slam.

It'll probably be her and big sis Venus in the final, which we are all a custom to seeing. And with that being said, Venus is the only player in Serena's way of capturing her 12th Grand slam title. However, Venus is getting a bit old and by the horrible loss she took at Wimbledon we will start to see a decline.

And if that isn't enough, just think about it. Who can possibly compete with Serena?

She's won two of the three majors this year, and you think she's happy with just that. And what's sad is that they still have her ranked #2 in the world, which is giving her all the fuel to continuously dominating everyone in her path. And the funny thing is that the #1 ranked player in the world Dinara Safina think she's actually good. This girl is one of the worst #1 players ever, and people have the nerve to like her. Come on now, let's be real!

When Nadal and Serena are hoisting their trophies, you know where to find me and say "You were right."

Colt's Way!

Am I the only one who is thrilled that college football is back. The only thing I don't like is that there's only three teams and three quarterbacks who are primed to have big years. With that being said my interest has to be on Colt McCoy and the Longhorns.

I'm always rooting for the USC Trojans but this year might be a rebuilding year for them, and this year has been taking over by Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, and McCoy. Each QB played excellent and lead their teams to successful seasons last year, and if that isn't enough they were the only 3 college players invited to New York for the Heisman Memorial Trophy presentation in which Bradford won.

This year is no different, and why should it be.

Everyone is going crazy over Tebow, which is justified because he is insanely talented and has undoubtedly one of the best defenses in the nation. However, McCoy is the best QB in the nation and I have to put everyone on notice of this kid. This year, defenses should be horrified when they see him on the opposite end of the field.

McCoy and the Longhorns were robbed of a Big-12 Championship and a birth in the National Championship Game, which would've been against the Florida Gators who are now champions.

But don't listen to me, just go look for yourself. He is the best pure passer in the nation, and his versatility dominates a game. No defense was able to shut him down, and if it wasn't for a very lucky catch by Michael Crabtree, McCoy would be the reigning Heisman winner.

I haven't forgotten about Bradford for all those OU heads, but the fact remains that the Heisman voters don't like picking the same person the following year. That's exactly why I don't think Tebow will win, because he's a former Heisman winner as well. And on that note, you guys are making it seem like Tebow will have one of the best years in history and be the best college QB of all-time, when he probably won't even have that great of year.

You guys need to start watching some Colt McCoy videos, you're going to be seeing a lot of him this year and in the future.

See you in New York Colt!

Peaking At The Right Time!

With the NBA season right on our heels, I just had to get back to letting everyone know that the Lakers are still the team to beat.

I don't want to hear how good the Cavs, Magic, Celtics, Spurs, or even Mavs have gotten over the off season, because the Lakers beat all of them last year so it doesn't matter. I will admit that all of those teams did make some nice moves to ensure a better season, but the Lakers made better moves.

Not only did they acquire Ron Artest, but they brought back Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown.

If that's not enough most of the competition is in the East, so Kobe and company wont have much to worry about. And speaking of that guy, let's not forget Kobe is only 30 and still is one of the best players in the league. His stats decreased last year, but that didn't matter because he didn't need to put up outrageous numbers for LA to win.

I know we all wanted to see that dream match up of Kobe vs LeBron last year in the finals, but we can only blame one person for it not happening. The "King" himself.

Don't worry, with Shaq now on LeBron's side we will definitely get what we've all been waiting for. The great thing about it is, it'll be the same result like last year when Kobe and LeBron met.

Kobe leading his team to victory!

I can understand if you're a Cavs fan because you guys are so hung up on LeBron, and believe he's going to lead you guys to great things. However, if you're not then it makes no sense to discriminate the Lakers. They are deadly, and the addition of Artest makes them unstoppable even with all of the Artest doubters.

Even with all that being said, I know you guys still are going to talk horrible about the Lakers but another championship will definitely shut you up.

Vick To The Rescue!

This past week, we finally saw the return of Michael Vick when he made his debut with the Eagles.

I really didn't see the big parade behind it. He played like 5 minutes and everyone was screaming like he just led the Eagles to a Superbowl victory.

First off, this move was very dumb on the Eagles part. Your going to take snaps away from Donovan McNabb who led this same team to the NFC Championship Game last year, and has great chemistry with everyone on their roster.

So my question is, what is Vick going to do?

They aren't even sure if he'll be able to play this year, and if he does he won't see action until week 6. So your risking all of this for a guy who might not even play. Are you serious!

And what if Vick is able to play and performs well, then what? Are you going to sit McNabb? Are you going to switch both players playing time so that Vick is in the game? What is going to happen, because you can't split time between them, it just isn't going to work.

The Eagles claim their going to use the "Wildcat" formation with Vick, which is the obvious choice but what if that doesn't work. You already have a pocket passer in McNabb, and let's not forget McNabb is still a mobile quarterback that's why the decision makes no sense.

To tell you the truth, I think the Eagles know that McNabb's time is almost up and they need someone who can step in right away and continue this teams winning ways. Vick is the only QB who fits that criteria. Their other back-ups are Kevin Kolb and A.J. Feeley. Seriously! That makes Vick even more attractive.

The move is wrong for a lot of reasons, and right for only one.

Yanks Cashing In!

The MLB playoffs hasn't even started, and you can tell who is the primed to win the World Series. And if your a bit lost, the answer is the New York Yankees. You could never get tired of the Yankees name, because they are baseball. Once again they're atop the baseball world, and everyone is envying them.

Last year they missed the post-season, and their off season moves were easily the best in baseball. Teams and fans envy the Yankees because they have more money then some teams are worth, and they can get anybody they want.

They brought in Mark Teixera, CC Sabathia, and AJ Burnett and all haven't disappointed.
Everyone says their just an offense team, they don't play defense or have enough pitching to re-capture the World Series title. If you think that, then your obviously not in your right mind.

The Yanks are not beating their opponents, their demolishing them. Their making it look easy, and if your a contending American League team you better hope you don't face the Yankees. Their offense is most versatile in baseball, and no team has shown that they can handle it. They can play small ball and beat you, or use the long ball to crush you. Either way, this team is unstoppable.

Since the All-Star break the Yanks have only lost 2 series, and in both they won at least one game.

This team is clicking on all cylinders right now. The have a 6.5 game lead over the Red Sox, and it that isn't going to change in 1 month. Their going to head into the post-season with the best record in the majors, ready to dominate anyone in their way.

Not winning a World Series is considered a failure in the Yankee organization, and this team gets that. They don't want to have just a good regular season, they want to match that up with a great post-season which results in winning the World Series.

Yanks All The Way!!

The Brady Bunch!

Going into this upcoming NFL season there are so many questions waiting to be answered.

The biggest question is how will Tom Brady do returning from knee surgery, which resulted in him missing the entire 08 season. The answer is simple, he'll be fine!

Missing a whole season with a knee injury can cause some concern, but this is Tom Brady we're talking about. It's not like he's coming back to a horrible team or a new one. He has Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Bill Bellichick, a great offensive line, and not to mention newly acquired Fred Taylor & Joey Galloway.

What more can you ask for?

If that doesn't tell you anything, how about Brady's play in this post-season. When was the last time you saw a former MVP want to play in the post-season as bad as Brady?

Brady knew he was fine and ready for this season, he just had to put the rest of the league on notice that he's back.

The Patriots haven't won a Superbowl since 04, and I think this year their poised to end that drought. The AFC is a better conference but I doubt most of the teams who had success last year will have the same this year.

The Dolphins were a surprise team last year, and they barely got into the playoffs. Chad Pennington isn't going to have another good season like last, because he's not use to performing well or being on a winning team. The Titans are another team who shocked a lot of people, taking the #1 seed in the AFC. Kerry Collins isn't a QB who you look to, when trying to repeat as division champs that's why they wont make it.

That's already two teams who are out of the playoff picture, which will easily help lead the Patriots into one of those positions. Look for the Pats to come back strong and bring the Lombardi trophy back to Foxborough.
